My interest in paint lies in the way it can be used to explore color, light, design, and composition rather than as a medium for reproducing subjects exactly as they appear.

Many of my portraits are painted from photographs, except for still lifes, which are painted from life. These pictures are quite traditional and lean towards being realistic depictions of the subject.

Those paintings created with cut paper, paint, and collage are scenes made from memory.

I periodically allow myself to meander with color, shape and form. These meandering sessions have resulted in several expressionist paintings. As I go along, and when all the elements are where I want them to be and  if I'm excited about the result, I consider the painting finished and put my signature on it.
